Amazon: Coleman Instant Tent review! (It really is instant!)

Last year, we went camping with our two kiddos and had to set up our garage-sale-find-from-our-college-days tent on an exceptionally windy evening. Suffice it to say, the tent suffered a few fatal rips. Plus, we needed a tent that could comfortably fit two adults, one 3-year-old and and a toddler still in a pack-n-play, and this tent just wasn't going to work long-term. Not to mention the fact it could no longer be staked into the ground.

So, we needed a new tent for camping this year and had our sights on a Coleman Instant Tent, having been thoroughly impressed with the one our friend owned. A tent that you can stand up in (seriously, no ducking and hunching over) and sets up in about one minute?! Go big, or go home, right?

We settled on this Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent, which arrived the day before we disembarked on our camping trip (Thank you, Amazon Prime!). A decent chunk of the cost was covered by Swagbucks credits, so we ended up paying about the same as we would've for a basic 8-person tent at Costco.

As for the functionality, I can happily report that my husband had the tent up (in the dark, for the first time, mind you) in less than 2 minutes! That's pretty instant if you ask me, and will only get faster with practice. It was packed up again in just about the same time. We fit a queen-size mattress, a toddler-size sleeping bed area and a pack-n-play inside, with lots of room left over. You don't feel crammed at all. It also stood up perfectly to the thunderstorms throughout the weekend, which included pelting rain and some wind. Probably the biggest improvement upon any tent I've ever used is that you can walk around the entire tent standing up. It's beautifully roomy inside in height and width!

Probably the only drawback I can think of is the size and weight of the packed-up tent. It's actually about the same size as a folded-up pack-n-play, and it would be too heavy to use as a back-packing tent. In other words, it's great if you are driving right to your campsite, but probably not so much if you have to carry it in for a long distance.

If you have any camping still to do, and have been considering a new tent, this Coleman Instant Tent is totally worth the investment. We still have room to grow into it, which makes it perfect for families. I'm looking forward to our next camping adventure next month!
