a great deal on coconut yogurt, and how I make couponing work for my family!

I've heard it all. Every negative comment about couponing, and some if it, I get. If there's one that really bothers me, though, it's the perception that couponers are all slipping into a junk-food-induced coma. Yes, there are plenty of coupons for "junk food" {my favorite being coupons for M&M's}. But living frugally does not necessarily mean you must subsist on the unhealthiest of diets imaginable. Here is just one example...

My youngest son is allergic to dairy. Since discovering this many months ago, I've been on high-alert for any and all sales on coconut or almond milk products. Coconut milk, in particular, is not cheap, but it's really very good for you. And, my little dude loves it. Especially So Delicious' Coconut Milk Yogurt. {It really is delicious.} The problem is often that I cannot justify spending the typical $1.50+ on a single-serve container of yogurt. It just isn't in our budget.

Enter: the beautiful, $1.00/1 any So Delicious product coupon from the 2/12 SS insert. I could use it on coconut milk, but we're pretty stocked up already and the kiddo seriously loves the yogurt.

Enter: The Sale. Whole Foods has So Delicious coconut yogurts on sale for just $1.25 each. Not bad, but still pricier than I'd like to pay. With a $1.00 coupon, though, I'm now going to pay only $0.25, which is a pretty darn good price for yogurt of any kind.

The Result? 17 So Delicious Coconut Yogurts for just $0.33 each. Here's how the math worked out:
::On Sunday, I purchased a set of 20 coupons on Ebay for just $1.75 shipped. You can find pretty much any coupon from any insert for sale on Ebay in sets of 5, 10, 20 or more. I only get 2-4 papers per week, so Ebay is how I get more of a coupon I really want.

::I received my coupons yesterday (Wednesday) and made the trip to Whole Foods today:
(17) So Delicious Coconut Yogurts (including the Greek variety!), $1.25 each
Used 17, $1.00/1 coupons (2/12 SS)
Final price: $0.25, plus I factor in the cost of the coupons ($0.08 per coupon)... so just $0.33 each!

What I didn't do:
::Clear the shelves. There were a ton of yogurts left (probably literally), even after I added 17 to my cart. Whole Foods is one of the few stores that is always well-stocked, it seems.

::Illegally use the coupon. It clearly states "any" product, and even shows a yogurt in the photo.

::Eat all of them when I got home. Even though they're that good!

I hope this is an encouragement, albeit long-winded, that you can indeed save money and live well. Make couponing work for you and your family, however that may look, and don't be afraid to show the skeptics how you rock the savings and nutrition!

    1. Thank you! The sale runs through next Tuesday (3/27), which should be enough time to buy extra coupons and get them in the mail :)

  2. I went to Whole Foods today and the check out person said "wow, you did great" and he was right I did. ;) My Whole Foods is super coupon friendly. I told my husband nothing feels as good as getting a deal at "Whole Paychecks" as my husbands friend calls it ;)You really can find deals on healthy foods.

  3. I've always been afraid of buying coupons on ebay. Is there a way to minimize the risk of being ripped off? How would I pick a reputable person to buy from?

    1. Dana, I would recommend looking at their rating (the star status), and if that's almost 100% positive, you shouldn't have a problem with the seller. That's not a guarantee, but a pretty good indication.

One time, I received a completely different set of coupons than the ones I needed, and they were for a specific doubler deal at Albertsons. I informed the seller, and pretty quickly figured out that I wouldn't be able to get the coupons in time for the sale, and the seller actually reimbursed me for both the price of the coupons AND the value of the coupons (in this case, $20). They went above and beyond, which I know isn't always the case.

I've purchased many coupons through Ebay without a hitch besides that, so I highly recommend it if you need a bunch of the same coupon!
