Recommended Summer Reading: Unbroken

If I were to attempt a book review for my favorite read of the year (so far), it could be summed up in one word: "Wow." I seriously couldn't put this book down, and finished it in less than 24 hours. (I think my kiddos spent most of the day with their daddy...)

  I'm talking about Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, written by the author of Seabiscuit, which details the most unbelievably true life of Louis Zamperini. I both laughed and cried my way through the story, all the while thinking, "How is this all possible?"

  It's an easy read, in the sense that it flows effortlessly and doesn't feel at all like a biography. The characters are so compelling. Perhaps it's because they are real people who lived through real horrors of a more primitive war, something that doesn't resonate with a generation accustomed to more advanced technology. That said, it's not always easy to read the unflinching recounting of wartime tragedy and torture.

  While the summer flick Avengers is a fun fantasy world, Unbroken is a raw glimpse of true heroism. If you're looking for a worthy read for the summer, I couldn't recommend Unbroken enough.

{It's on sale for $13.48 (hardcover) or $12.99 (Kindle) on Amazon.}
