In my family, Saturdays are for having fun and tackling projects around the home. We enjoyed a little bit of both by planting some broccoli seeds, against all odds of actually having a garden-worthy summer here in the Pacific Northwest! Considering it snowed here in Seattle just this morning, I'm thankful broccoli is a cold-weather crop!
I have a shallow window sill, so I figured I'd save some money on seed trays and use my glass loaf pans instead. I purchased some peat pots at The Home Depot (search for "Burpee Peat Pots"), which can be planted directly in the ground. My 3-year-old son enjoyed learning about seeds and helping me plant them in the pots.
Total garden investment to date: $2
